Some telemarketers have passed down caller ID itself for marketing, such as by using an 800 integer and the text string "FREE MONEY" or "FREE PLANE TICKETS" as the eponym to be displayed on the Page caller ID.
Some cell phone providers used the caller ID to automatically connect to statement mail when a call to the articulation mail number was synthetic from the associated cell phone number, bypassing the charge to enter a password. While this was convenient for many users, because of spoofing, this practice has been replaced by amassed secure authentication by many carriers.
